I love the interludes that we get throughout the novel where we get to see the horrible things that the Fog causes people to do. Growing up, I was a huge fan of horror, the cheesier the better. Who cares about the ruthless sex scenes - copulation and madness and castration; or the male chauvinistic gusto, as ribald as a postwar spy thriller 'cheapie'; or the dung-heap dialogue that has the mastery of a pre-pubescent boy writing a James Bond pastiche.
